The history, the philosophy and the aims In 1992, on a ferry sailing towards Sardinia for a holiday, we met two German girls accompanied by a magnificent, golden dog. his well-behaved manner, his equilibrium, his gentle but intense and intelligent gaze stuck us profoundly. They told us it was a Golden Retriever. A year after we acquired Sugar, our first Golden. We had previously had dogs of various breeds but, although they had been part of our daily lives, none could compare with Sugar. None of them possessed so many positive qualities and none had been able to adapt so well to our family lives. We were so impressed with him that we decided to find out more about this breed and timidly took our first step into the world of the Golden Retriever. Thanks to the Italian Retrievers Club, (of which we are members) we bagan to attend shows and to discover the working capabilities of the breed. To our great satisfaction Sugar became an Italian Show Champion two years later.
In 1995, after much research we acquired a female, Chivas Cotton Lace, from the Chivas Kennel. We named her Misty and with her we began to breed. Her excellent physical qualities and character, inherited from her solid type-bred pedigree was our starting point. Misty has given us an excellent foundation and marvellous possibilities on which to work. We owe her a lot. We breed because we love it and produce very few litters. In spite of breeding dogs that have had success in both the show and working fields, even if it could have been easy to do so, we have never betrayed our ideals and principles. Ours is and always will be a small, family kennel because, most importantly we love our Goldens and want them to be a constant part of our family life - for our pleasure and theirs. We are well aware that a Golden suffers when he is deprived of the human company he loves. Our dogs are never only a means to obtain personal gratification. We would certainly have declined to breed if this was the price to pay to reach the levels we have. Quality, non quantity are our watchwords. Inevitably, like other serious breeder, we make sacrifices but fortunately we have gained so much satisfaction, friendships and the respect of the many people who share our way of thinking and our passion. We have always paid particular attention to the 'type' of the dogs we breed and we are constantly striving to improve. A well-balanced character, excellent physical conformation, an innate capacity to learn and, not least, working ability are the goals we will never renounce.
The Golden Retriever is primarily a hunting dog, specialized in retrieving. All our dogs must have the ability to search for and pick up game happily demonstrating the innate predisposition to please theis handler. This 'will to please' is what gives the Golden Retriever its special character.
For almost ten years we have built up our philosophy of breeding and this has been confirmed by the number of people asking for a Golden that cannot only have success in shows but also be able to compete in working tests and field trials. We are very proud of this. However, there are also many people who havo no knowledge of the ring and even fewer know how difficult is to compete in a field trial. We are often asked for a Golden as a family pet - a special companion - but we do not believe that this should be an excuse to lower our standards. A Golden should always be healthy, beautiful, easy to train, and possess his marvellous temper.
All our clients - whether they want a show dog, a working dog, a family pet etc. - can count on our help and our advice for the duration of their Golden's life. No-one has been denied this priviledge. Along side the recognition we have obtained through the successes our dogs have won on the national and international scenes, we consider the total satisfaction of our clients our best advertisement.
